| Growing up a wrestling fan in Perth |
| I have lived in Perth my whole life and for
as long as I can remember I have been a wrestling fan. I can remember at the age of 5
watching the wacky antics of the million dollar man on Saturday Night Main event and like
many of you can even remember back to when ppvs were shown on free to air TV
one of my earliest childhood memories was watching Hulk Hogan and King Kong Bundy in their
steel cage match (I wont admit who I was cheering for in that one) But growing up a
wrestling fan in Perth was always difficult, you see wrestling fans in Perth are few and
far between and explaining to someone who doesnt watch about how good it was has
always been a difficult task and if I had 5 cents for every time someone
"informed" me that "It was all fake" I swear I would be a millionaire.
All through school I only met one other wrestling fan and wouldnt you know it, I didnt meet him until midway through year 12. You could always spot a wrestling fan in a crowd though because it doesnt matter where you are or what you are doing they will always find a way to work a wrestlers catch phrase into a conversation "WHAT" I said they will always find a way to work a catch phrase into a conversation if you smell what the rock is cookin sucka. I met my only fellow wrestling fan in high school when he started stomping his boot on the ground and informing another kid in class he was about to get hit with some sweet chin music It was a beautiful moment and a friendship was born right there on the spot (and while I am on the topic, the kid he kicked is getting better every day and the doctors are confident he will soon be out of his coma) Anyway it was a year later after finishing high school at the age of 17 that I got a job in a video store, It was bad pay and lousy conditions but I got to talk to the customers who hired the wrestling videos and as you can imagine I talked a lot! The amazing thing is that I met almost all my closest friends I have today through the wrestling section of that video store. As crappy as the job was, I am thankful for it just for letting these friends into my life and even now 5 years later we still try and meet twice a week to watch Raw and Smackdown and none of us ever miss a ppv. Since then I have met many wrestling fans in Perth and with the acception of one really scary guy who dressed like Freddy Kruger and claimed to be Kevin Nashs boyfriend who I met while sleeping out for WCW tickets every fan I have met has been awesome and great to talk to. At the last Explosive Coastal Wrestling event standing in that ring listening to the crowd chat "ECW ECW .ECW" it was like the sound of Angels singing to me. You see, Explosive Coastal Wrestling for me is not only a way to see fantastic live wrestling from people who arent washed up and over the hill But its a great way to meet fellow wrestling fans in Perth. I guess I just want to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has been supporting ECW and remind you to tell as many people as you can about ECW and get them along to the events after all without you the fans and your support we are nothing!
