| Dancin Lukeys Unofficial Explosive Coastal Wrestling End of Year Awards |
| Well voting is still open on
ecwperth.com to decide the best of the best for the year 2001-2002 in Explosive Coastal
Wrestling. The best part is that after your votes decide who wins they will all be
announced live in a very special pre-show ceremony at Re-Awakening November 2nd
at the Wanneroo Civic Centre. So to witness them live all you have to do is pre-order your
tickets now and get to the show early to see the winners unfold live. Meantime before we
get to that I thought I would do my own special Explosive Coastal Wrestling year end
awards in a little article I like to call
"Dancin Lukeys Unofficial Explosive Coastal Wrestling End of Year Awards" Rookie of the Year: Well this was a very competitive category this year. With 4 exciting and very talented debuts it was hard to narrow it down to just one winner But I did: Winner Brock Freeman: Brock first appeared way back at Redemption at the Morley PCYC as he helped out as a guest ring announcer. Although during this ring announcing Brock saw Justin Sane beating on Anda Nothica after he had already won the match and jumped the rail to help out ECWs smallest wrestler. Brock has always looked out for the little guys and really shown some tremendous talent and heart over the past 9 months and earned his spot as rookie of the year. Runner up: Damian Kross: Damian is as mean as they come. Since his debut no one has been able to intimidate him and believe me many have tried. Its only a matter of time before people start to take more notice of this young wrestler and if they dont he will no doubt make them. Most Improved: To be honest there isnt one wrestler in ECW who hasnt gotten better since Awakening last November However some have improved more than others: Winner Jamie Jurah: When Jamie Jurah had his first match at Evolution under the name "Shuriken" he was awful and I mean awful. I would use the joke "He didnt know a wristwatch from a wristlock" but I am not that pathetic. Anyway he didnt get in more than a single offensive move before being pinned by Shiggins Now just 5 months later thanks to the help of a mystery trainer Jamie Jurah is one of the most technically sound wrestlers in ECW its a shame he isnt as well put together in the sanity department. Runner(s) up Tie: Mixer and Richter: These two wrestlers have come so far and when it came to picking one for the runner up I couldnt decide, rather than flip a coin and cheat these guys out of there hard earned award I though I would just honour them both. Certainly two wrestlers to watch, as they will only continue to improve. Guest Commentator of the year: Well each event someone will join me (and Slick Rick) at the commentary position to help call the match and get a few things off their chest. So who did the best job of helping call a match or two Winner: The Vagrant (Hell or Highwater): Every time the Vagrant joined me at the desk it was guaranteed to be a fun time. He has a very quick wit and always seems to bring a smile to the fans faces with his comedic point of view. Runner up: Davis Storm (Collision Course): This is one person who reminds me of myself just because he is never at a loss for words. Davis Storm always has a lot to say and has a very nice way of getting his point across when he isnt slapping me he can be a very funny guy to have at the announcers table. Event of the Year: Explosive Coastal Wrestling has had a year full of great events for the wrestling fans of Perth. From Awakening through to Retribution they have all had there good points and bad points but one event stood out in my mind Winner: Evolution: The main reason this event stands out in my mind is because of the back to back epic battles of Damian Kross vs F.N. Carnage in what only can be described as an A+ match followed by Davis Storm vs Jimmy Payne which can only be described as any true wrestling fans wet dream. Runner up: Retribution: Anyone who was there knows this event was an amazing one. Lots of broken tables, chairs, street signs oh and I broke my own personal record for shouting "Oh my God" over 400 times in a single event. Comeback of the year: Winner: Mikey: If Mikey didnt prove he was superhuman by returning to the ring after Redemption January 27th at the Morley PCYC then he proved it at Retribution when he defeated number 1 contender Jimmy Payne. Runner Up: Slick Rick Sanders: Thats right my co-commentator Slick Rick who managed to suck up to Carnage and return to ECW after being kicked out at Evolution earlier this year. Match of the year: Well this is one of the toughest categories to pick a winner in. After almost 50 official matches in the past year ECW has put on some absolute barn burners but for my money one definitely stands out. Winner: Davis Storm vs Jimmy Payne at Evolution: This was an incredible match. These two certainly are two of the best Australia has to offer and come November 2nd at Re-Awakening we are going to be treated to a rematch of this classic encounter I for one am counting down the days. Runner up: Mikey vs FN Carnage at Collision Course: Another epic battle in ECW. This was a great match that really could have gone either way and for those of you who missed it I strongly recommend picking up the video. Wrestler of the year: In a perfect world I would be able to give out about 10 of these awards unfortunately we dont live in a perfect world so I am only giving out 1 and a runner up. After much thought and stress I have decided that the Dancin Lukeys Unofficial Explosive Coastal Wrestling End of Year Award for best wrestler goes to Winner: Jimmy Payne: When we look back in years to come 2001 2002 will be known as the year of Jimmy and the way Mr Anarchy wrestles there is many years of kicking ass to come. Runner up: Davis Storm: Barely pipped at the post by Jimmy Payne, Davis Storm has had a massive year. Despite being defeated by Jimmy in the invitational tournament Davis Storm has been a strong ECW champion and hasnt lost the belt once but that may change November 2nd. Im Dancin Lukey of course thats just my opinion I could be wrong! |
