Dancin Lukey’s 2002 WWE year-end Awards
Well they are back by popular demand, It’s been a big year in American wrestling and what better way to mark the end of it then by having me judge and ridicule the largest federation in the world! So without any more rambling lets get into the year-end awards…

Best Technician: Well once again none other than Kurt Angle has continued to impress me and deliver the most solid technical matches throughout the year!

Best Wrestler on interviews: This one was a close call, The beginning of the year saw The Rock deliver some killer interviews, then when he left it was a close race between Jericho and Angle all year… In the past 4 weeks of the year though Jericho laid out some of the best promos and interviews of his career and snuck by to capture the award.

Most improved wrestler: Eddy Gurrero: Ok I know this would raise a few eyebrows but it’s true. Over the past 12 months Eddy has come leaps and bounds. In 2001 Eddy was very average and had reached a career low as far as in ring skills go… however now he is on the ball and having some awesome matches every week that are back up with his 1996 ECW standard! Lets hope it lasts.

Most over rated wrestler: Remember when Tom Hanks won an Oscar two years in a row and everyone was really surprised and impressed… well no one will be surprised or impressed that once again Big Show has won this award.

Most Underrated Wrestler: Christian despite killer interviews and great in ring skills is still being held back while Edge gets pushed to the moon… it’s just not right!

Best Angle: Kurt… HA HA HA you think after a year I could come up with a new joke but NO I still find that hilarious! Seriously though the best Angle would have to be the return of Shawn Michaels to the WWE… I am still tingling all over!

Worst Angle: Eric… Ok so you all saw that coming from 12 months away but still I think it’s funny SO SUE ME!!! The worst angle of the year goes to the Undertaker is cheating on his wife angle. It didn’t go anywhere and was a waste of my time… speaking of which the runner up was the terrible Tori and Dawn Marie angle that is going nowhere in no hurry.

Best Gimmick: The Real American Hulk Hogan… Good to see him shed the black and white of the New World Order and give me a taste of nostalgia from my youth!

Worst Gimmick: The Un-Americans. I think the barenaked ladies said it best when they said "It’s all been done (woohoohoo) it’s all been done before"

Best Feud: Triple H vs Shawn Michaels. A great feud where believe it or not Triple H lost the majority of the matches!!!

Worst Feud: Triple H vs Kane. Could have been great and could have helped Kane become the main event player he deserves to be… Could have.

Best Match: This is probably the hardest call of the year. Picking out of hours of Raw, Smackdown, Afterburn, PPV’s one stand out match. But fortunately this year it’s easy, Match of the year was without a doubt Shawn Michaels vs Triple H at Summerslam! What an absolute barnburner!!!

Worst Match: Ric Flair vs Chris Jericho… Jericho it wasn’t your fault… really it wasn’t your fault!

Event of the year: Well this is the first year since 1995 that the Royal Rumble hasn’t been my "event of the year". This year I have to give the award to Summerslam, which delivered a killer card without one stinker on the whole card!

Best Announcer: Jim Ross was back in form this year. Despite a few off moments we all suffer from he had some great moments including an awesome win in the main event of Raw a few weeks ago over the evil Steven Regal. Honourable Mention to the most improved Coachman who continues to amuse me.

Best Manager/Valet: Without a doubt has to be Paul Heyman who kicked major ass this year on interviews. Honourable mention to Nidia who did a VERY convincing job acting like a slut!

Best Tag Team: Jericho and Christian. They were just kind of thrown together but did an outstanding job as a tag team and deserve and extra large jar of new and improved Ass cream for their efforts.

Worst Wrestler: the winner and STILL boring and crappy wrestler William Regal!

Best Wrestler of the year: As always this one was hard to decide on… I judged it on character, Mike skills and who has put on the most entertaining matches this year… So here it is… Dancin Lukey’s Top Five best Wrestlers of 2002

5) The Undertaker: This is one some people may disagree with. But hey the guy is hardly in his prime and still managed to deliver some very entertaining matches this year and give it his all. (Best match of 2002 check out Taker vs Lesnar hell in a cell… not the best but definitely the bloodiest WWE match of all time)

4) Chris Jericho: Despite being pushed out of main event status for most of the year Jericho still made his mark as an excellent wrestler. Almost suffered injury on numerous occasions, made me laugh with some killer interviews and wowed me with some great matches. (Best match of 2002 TLC four way)

3) Shawn Michaels: Four years without a single match and he comes back and delivers the match of the year! If he had been around from a little earlier in the year there isn’t a doubt in my mind he would have won wrestler of the year! (Best match of 2002 vs Triple H at Summerslam)

2) Rob Van Dam: Another man who deserves to be main eventing with a title around his waist but is being held back by the man (aka Triple H) Lets hope that 2003 holds more opportunities for this bright star. (Best match of 2002 vs Eddy Gurrero in a ladder match on Raw.

1) Kurt Angle: A great year for Angle ending with a WWE World title around his waist… What more can you ask for! This guy continues to dominate and deliver the best matches and interviews week in week out! Well-done Angle! (Best match of 2002 vs Rey Jnr at Summerslam)
