Dancin Lukey Pays Tribute to Curt Hennig
curt-hennig.jpg (12826 bytes)I discovered in the early hours of this morning some very sad news; a childhood hero of mine had passed away. Growing up with wrestling being such a big part of my life I looked up to a lot of the "old school" WWF superstars… some more than others! Lets be honest I never walked around the school yard flapping my arms like KoKo Beware, I rarely ever wrote poems of the back of Frisbee’s and threw them around the classroom like The Genius… However I can’t count the amount of times I stood on the basketball court of Huntingdale Primary School throwing the ball backwards over my head trying to get it in… just like Mr Perfect!!!

Curt was the coolest wrestler, He chewed gum… made his own rules and he did that cool thing where he threw his town behind his back and caught it! Yep Curt was a very cool guy! It wasn’t just the promos of him making a hole in one on a golf course, knocking out a boxer with one punch or the legendary basketball shots that made him a legend though it was the talent that he displayed in the ring! He was a veteran with all the moves and a smooth way to deliver them!

Truth was I got to see Curt a few years back live and although he wasn’t in his prime he still had such a presence and had a way to bring the Perth crowd to their feet and cheer him. He was just like that as a wrestler charismatic and fun.

If you want to see Curt in action here are a few of his best matches I must recommend you check out…

Summerslam 1990: Mr Perfect vs Texas Tornado Kerry Von Erich: Two fallen stars in their peek wrestling for the Intercontinental title… A very solid and entertaining match!

Wrestlemania 5: Mr Perfect vs The Blue Blazer (Owen Hart) Two of the wrestlers I admire the most that are unfortunately no longer with us. This is showing the potential these men have and how bright their futures were.

Monday night Raw after Royal Rumble 1993: Mr Perfect vs Ric Flair in a WWF retirement match. A classic match that finally saw Curt get a well earned victory over his mentor Ric Flair.

And in my opinion the greatest Curt Hennig match of all time…

Summerslam 1991: Mr Perfect vs Bret "Hitman" Hart for the Intercontinental title. This match is one of the best of the 90’s. Bret and Curt are both in their prime and give it their all in front of this sell out crowd. One of the best matches of both men’s careers and a fine way to remember Curt by.

So long Curt I know you are up there right now knocking back a beer with Owen and Bobby Duncum jnr talking about old times and belting out a chorus of "Rap is Crap"… I just hope that there are more people like me who remember you in many years and look back and say… Mr Perfect really was one of the greatest of our time.
