| ECWPerth.com finally gets a chance to talk with ECW champion Davis Storm |
ECWPerth: We
finally had a chance to sit down with Davis Storm in the lead up to his much anticipated
title defence against F.N. Carnage at the August 3rd wrestling spectacular 'Hell or High
Water'. In a direct transcript from audio, Storm speaks about his title reign, his
favourite matches, his hatred for the Vagrant and F.N. Carnage and lets fans know what
they can expect for the Explosive Coastal Wrestling Champion on Saturday night, August 3rd
at the Wanneroo Civic Centre.ECWPerth: Thanks for chatting to us... you're probably the most elusive wrestler to get together for an interview... Storm: Well, champions are hard to find. But let me tell you, it will be worth the wait. ECWPerth: Firstly, Davis Storm.. having never had the chance to ask you before, what does it feel like for you to wear the ECW title? Storm: It feels exactly like it should be. I am a champion by nature. I'm not saying that there aren't any decent wrestlers in ECW....I'm just saying that they pale in comparison to me. I was born knowing that I am just a cut above the rest. Even if it is normally a fairly big cut. ECWPerth: We noted earlier in your ECW career, you had the help of the now Uprising leader Xeriyous Blade... now, is there anyone whom you call a friend in the locker room that would come to your aid if need be? Storm: Yeah....Blade and I go back a long way but we both had different goals here in ECW Perth. I don't know about friends in Explosive Coastal Wrestling.....When you are the champ no one wants to help you unless there is some benefit for them, so I am wary of who I trust.....And the only person I trust right now is me. ECWPerth: Most of us reading witnessed your actions at Collision Course.. now, with all due respect, the way you conducted yourself was not like a Champion at all? Storm: Excuse me!! (interrupting) ECWPerth: Well.. we saw you defend the belt arrogantly against an ECW trainee in 'Brad', and then interrupted the match between Mikey and F.N. Carnage, then once again, arrogantly defended the title against the latter when he was clearly in no state to wrestle another match that evening? Storm: Hey, I was just proving that no one is beyond my grasp. I get what I want when I want. Vagrant tried to come out and tell me how to defend MY belt. I don't think so. I wasn't trying to embarass Brad. I was trying to embarass our esteemed Chairman. And prove to him that I will do as I please. No one will dictate to me. FN Carnage has been dealt with many times already in the past. And everytime he has had an excuse for losing. I don't make excuses..........I make examples. And Carnage and Vagrant were both shown to lack the mental acumen that I possess. I simply outsmarted them. (interrupting)In other words I acted like a champion would.............I won!! ECWPerth: Well... sitting atop the ECW ladder is obviously a dubious position to be in.. who do you see as the major threats to knocking you off the top spot? Storm: Interesting question. ECW seems to think that FN Carnage is a threat to me. I don't think so. There are a few guys who could take me out if I wasn't on my game. But that won't happen. That's why I'm the champ. But I won't skirt the question.....Without a doubt the man I see as my biggest challenge is Jimmy Payne. ECWPerth: Wow... a first there... We have seen in recent events a dedicated Davis Storm fan base emerge. How do you react to the people who openly show support for one of the most hated men in Australian wrestling? Storm: Hated? Hmmm.....That's an interesting concept. I don't think many people hate Davis Storm. There may be a few jealous people out there. I think everyone comes to the wrestling to boo or cheer someone. If they don't like me that doesn't matter. It doesn't mean a thing to me. But I think that most people can recognise that I am a superior athlete and a great wrestler. That's what the fans are responding to. But love me or hate me.......... I am who I am and I will be a success no matter what. ECWPerth: Due to great reports through our website www.ecwperth.com, we have been told of many injuries that you have battled through just to defend the belt at regular events. Are you suffering from anything now, can you elaborate on any you have had and will you be at 100% come Hell or High Water on August 3rd? Storm: Injuries are just another excuse for guys who can't get the job done. I don't talk about injuries. If you want to wrestle then expect to get hurt. If you don't want it bad enough then go home and cry over your injuries. I will get the job done no matter what. If I'm injured and somebody beats me then so be it. But as long as I can stand on my two feet and breathe, that person will be involved in an absolute dog fight. So to answer your question, I have no comment on any present or past injuries that I may or may not have suffered. ECWPerth: Okay... we'll leave that one... Having recently conducted an interview with Australian wrestling sensation Jag, he commented on a match you two had in South Australia earlier in the year. What was the match like for you? Storm: Amazing. I don't have alot of nice things to say about many people but let me say this. Jag is an absolutely amazing wrestler. He is the first Australian wrestler to be listed in the PWI 500 and to anyone who has seen him wrestle you would not question why. Sometimes you have to admit that someone has more experience than you and learn in order to become a better wrestler. What I learnt in that match helped me come back to Perth and defeat Jimmy Payne for the ECW Title. I would welcome the chance to ever step in the ring with him again. ECWPerth: Whilst on the subject, what is your favourite match in your short, but decorated career? Storm: My matches with Jimmy Payne have been the best of my career with the match at Evolution being my favourite for obvious reasons. Whether we like each other or not I think we bring out the best in each other. Jimmy Payne pushes me to another level. If you want to see Davis Storm at his best, then put him across the ring from Payne. Another guy whose challenge I welcome with open arms. But I think Evolution was the best I have been thus far. ECWPerth: Many fans would say the same thing... Now, if you could name an exact moment, what would be some of your favourites in your time here in Explosive Coastal Wrestling? Storm: Hmmmmm.....There have been a few. Winning the ECW Title was an extremely satisfying moment. Few people believed I could do it. But I just went out there and proved them wrong. Nothing is as satisfying as overcoming the supposed odds. I gotta say that I got a kick out of watching Blade beat the tar out of the Vagrant. Win, Lose or Draw, Blade made sure that Vagrant would remember him for some time to come. ECWPerth: Interesting... Just a few short weeks out from your title defence against F.N. Carnage at Hell or High Water... We're almost certain of your answer but... are you confident? Storm: Extremely. I told you already that as long as I'm breathing air, F.N. Carnage will have be in for the fight of his life. I am a little concerned about the Vagrant's presence at ringside though. Carnage has improved, no doubt. But even if he is good enough, his own self doubt will be too great an obstacle to overcome. Simply put, he doesn't believe he can beat me.....And you know what.....He's right! ECWPerth: Yet again, with no disrespect intended, we have seen all of your previous match with Carnage laced with some cheating in one form or another on your behalf... You earlier called them "excuses"... Now with the Vagrant at ringside as the special ring enforcer, does this change your game plan at all? Storm: Once again, I didn't cheat. I took the easiest route. That's not to say that I can't do things the hard way. I took my opportunities when they arose. If Carnage isn't smart enough to do that then so be it. But does my game plan change....Maybe a little. Instead of embarassing one man, I now have the chance to embarass two. Anyone who remembers Collision Course may be in for a dose of Deja Vu. I will beat the odds no matter what. I actually think that deep down, the Vagrant only tries to challenge me because he thinks the fans and the wrestlers want him to. He bears me no ill will I'm sure. Why would he? I'm the greatest champion a chairman could hope for. ECWPerth: We will be catching up with the Vagrant sometime before the next event to get his thoughts but now, what can the fans expect of Davis Storm when they attend Hell or High Water, Saturday August 3rd at the Wanneroo Civic Centre? Storm: Well as ECW have clearly tried to stack the deck against me, you will see Davis Storm come out firing. They have tried to hand pick a champion by helping Carnage as much as they possibly can. But it won't do them any good. So what can the fans expect....They can expect Davis Storm to throw everything he has at F.N. Carnage...They can expect Davis Storm to never quit or give up......And most importantly they can expect Davis Storm to retain his ECW Title. ECWPerth: Taking the interview down a notch...if you had a chance to wrestle any one in the wrestling world, who would it be and why? Storm: There are so many people that I would like to add to my list of victims. I would loved to have wrestled Dynamite Kid in his prime. That guy could have taught you more about wrestling in one match than you may ever learn in a lifetime. Shinjiro Othani. I would just like to see if I could survive 20 minutes in the ring with him. But perhaps the one guy I would love to wrestle is Chris Benoit. He can truly mix it up across any style of wrestling. A true legend and someone to be admired. ECWPerth: Glad to see even Davis Storm looks up to some people... and just finally we do this with everyone we interview here on www.ecwperth.com... a little word association... now, within reason, can you please state the first thing that enters your mind when you hear... Jimmy Payne - "One tough and talented son of a bitch" The Uprising - "The future of Perth and maybe Australian wrestling" F.N. Carnage - "A guy who suffers because he compromises himself for others" Dancin Lukey - "The greatest commentator in Australian wrestling and possibly the biggest mouth in Australia." The Vagrant - "Tough but again cares to much about how people perceive him, which makes him a biased chairman." ECW Fans - "Confused" Australian Wrestling - "Potentially huge BUT wasted market. Total lack of co-operation means it will stay small time. For now...." Davis Storm - "Champion" The Future - "Davis Storm, with ECW along for the ride....and when that time passes...Mikey...." ECWPerth: Well, Davis Storm thank you for finally accepting our offer for an interview... can you leave our readers out there with any parting words? Storm: I glad you all took the chance to read this and educate yourselves on all things Davis Storm. Because then you will be able to tell you kids that you read the first interview with Davis Storm, the best champion in Australian wrestling history. I will be successful with or without your support. You choose which side but remember.....Nobody likes someone who backs a loser |
