| Over the past month in preperation for
Retribution, I have seen ECW staff scurrying about all over to get things organised.
Events management is a key component in ensuring a successful show that pleases the fans
in every aspect. The components of ECW's shows are simple yet effective: Music, Lights,
Cameras, Lukey, Slick, and of course there is Wrestling. Any organisation on Earth can gain resources in the hope of increasing business, but the question is, can they utilise those resources properly? At ECW, we make the most potential out of every little detailed and actionable item that has the capacity to increase market share. We are innovative and that is definitely something even large corporate identities need to do today to slash budgets and increase profits. Even if ECW were operating with a monthly turnover of over $100,000 we would still make the most of the small things. Things such as cheap clothing material, hey it is effective and there is no difference. We would still most probably use the ring and production crew we have now, because we believe no one works harder. And one other thing we would definitely still have, even for a little while longer, is the beloved Wanneroo Civic Centre, possibly our best venue to date! What all businesses today have to learn is that budget control is not something to be taken lightly. We cannot be too extravagant with our exepenses at ECW, no matter how much money we eventually make. Every dollar counts in the long run. For instance, paying an extra thousand dollars for better lighting would add just that bit more zing to our shows, however in the long run this isn't cost justified. Our fans come for the wrestling, not to see a lazer show. My next point in the editorial (you may be asleep now or you may not) is what I call, Wrestling Moguls. People such as Vince McMahon, Vince Russo, and once upon a time both Eric Bischoff, Ted Turner and Paul Heyman. These are the men that are the controlling, owning and governing bodies over their wrestling enterprises. Much like Rupert Murdoch and his beloved Newscorp rule the media world, Vince McMahon and his entity, Titan Sports, control most of the free worlds wrestling market. They are the Microsoft to the personal computer, the Coke to the soft drink vending machine. They are up there and recognised as the leaders in their industry world-wide. So where is ECW among all this? Just two weeks ago, being the little opportunistic capitalist that I am, I bought myself a new toy, it was a software business simulator called Start-Up. Now a lot of you can go and call it a computer game, but I prefer to call it a simulator, because that is exactly what it is. Basically in this simulator you get the chance to start up your own business in the choice of three different markets within the IT industry. These are: Mobile video phone, Video game consoles and Cyber TV. One very important aspect of the game which really stuck out and made me realise how relevent this was to ECW, was the marketing and promotion budget. It was here that I realised how delicate and vital the planning of this budget was to me gaining a portion of the market share that my little start-up so desperately needed. And then it hit me! Why don't they make a simulator just like this but instead of entering the IT industry, what about Sports Entertainment? This would be so cool. A little program where you can hire and fire wrestlers and other staff, allocate budget, and purchase new capital to use in your business. I for one, if in possession of this software, would no doubt sit in front of my PC screen for hours on end and never want to stop playing. I would most probably start failing at uni and my social life, but what the hey, if I get a chance to put Vince out of business, even if it is simulated, then it is all worth it! Well anyway, gotta get back to organising Retribution...oh and yeah and by the way, this was referee Simon Cage with the latest edition of: Politics of the Ring |
