Politics of the Ring: A Black and White View - Show me the Money!
Hey everybody, welcome to the Post-Retribution article of Politics of the Ring. I am Simon Cage, ECW referee and Public Relations consultant, and this is my "Black and White View".

The Sports Agent

I have been involved in ECW for almost 1 year now, actually since before Awakening. And sure I haven’t put in as much work as some of the dedicated and highly driven pure wrestling fans in the organisation, but I can definitely tell you I have done a lot and seen a lot. However there is one thing over the inaugural year in ECW that I have not seen, at least in a legitimate sense, and that is the Sports Agent.

I’ll come back to that point soon, first I want to share my happiness and disappointment about Retribution. Happy because I saw Anda Nothica, someone I hold in a very high regard in ECW, win the first every three-way-match in ECW and advance to the Re-Awakening Invitational Tournament. Sad because I saw Azazal, a member of the highly threatening Uprising, defeat newcomer Brad West and move into join Nothica in that same contest. Happy because I saw Brock Freeman dismantle Damien Kross, unhappy because I saw Mikey completely pulverise a helpless Jimmy Payne in the Last Man Standing Match. Happy because I saw Davis Storm win by DQ over Justin Sane, unhappy for so many reasons that F’N Carnage won the ECW Battle Royal and has gone on to meet the other qualifiers of the invitational tournament.

That brings me right to the point of my article, the shenanigans of one Slick Rick Sanders. So what is Slick really doing with Carnage? Is he an official agent for the ‘hardest hitting man’ in ECW? Is he just a spokesperson? Consultant? Mediator? Friend? Acquaintance? Soul mate…err, no that’s going too far and I seriously don’t want to think about it.

Seriously though Slick, what are you doing hanging around and supporting Carnage?

And then I start thinking, why aren’t there any other Sports Agents or Managers in ECW. I’m so positively sure that the money and success is to be made for someone who would take a new potential wrestler under his wing, guide his talent and turn him into a star. Someone who would act as a mentor, spokesman and negotiator for a wrestler, why isn’t there someone like this?

I for one would be the first, given the opportunity, shed my black and white stripes (which I was not wearing at Retribution if anyone noticed) and take on this role as an agent to any potential young talent in ECW.

Would it help ECW? Yes. Would it help wrestlers? Yes. Would it help me? Yes, Yes, Yes!

Not trying to be too self-centred however, I do want to see ECW grow and expand. I am sure that having an agent would make it easier for a wrestler to gain that desired title shot or high profile mid-card and upper card match that would get their career really going.

Well, all in due time I suppose, I know for one thing that I would be a perfect agent, what with my PR skills and excellent diplomacy. Now I know your all saying, "man this guy thinks he’s God’s gift" but I’m just telling it how it is. And I would love to have this opportunity one day.

A lot of work goes into being a sports agent, as with anything so high profile and in the public eye. Then again, I’m the type of person that thrives on stress and work, just ask anyone that’s close to me, or some of the boys in ECW.

Well anyway, that’s my two cents for now, I’m sure if I have anymore time to kill later, I’ll consider writing another article.

Lastly I’d like to thank again everyone who attended Retribution, you fans make us as much as the wrestlers do!
