| Jimmy Payne wins the first ECW invitational tournament! |
| November 4th, 2001 is the date Jimmy Payne
will not soon forget... One of the first to arrive at the Wanneroo Civic Centre Sunday morning, Jimmy openly admitted there were butterflies deep down inside his stomach but felt ready to cast some damage on his opening opponent, Mixer. Having to wait through the first seven matches didn't help matters either but as soon as the music played and his first step was made onto the stage, he heard a sound that he was unfamiliar with. The sound, of course, was 300+ fans going absolutely crazy and they were behind him 100%. Butterflies ... they were gone and the adrenalin had just kicked in. The crowd was on its feet as Jimmy Payne made his way into the ring. Five short minutes later Mixer was seeing stars and Jimmy moved on to the second round to face Mikey Whiplash. Whiplash is no easy pushover either as Jimmy soon discovered. The two fought tooth and nail with many explosive moves that the Perth fans had never seen before. Jimmy took the fight all over the building, slamming Whiplash into walls, chairs and anything else he could find but that didn't stop Whiplash from delivering three huge moves in a row including a picture perfect moonsault from the top rope! Amazingly, Jimmy kicked out after two and a half, quickly recovered and delivered his "Payne Killer" for the three count. The third round saw Jimmy Payne take on the already battered and bruised Vagrant who had just finished his memorable Tables, Ladders and Chairs match with Anda Notica. Jimmy made quick work of The Vagrant after pummeling him through a table from the ring apron. The Vagrant was seeing stars as the referee quickly stopped the match opening up a spot in the finals for Jimmy. Jimmy would now meet his biggest challenge as he met Davis Storm in the finals. Storm, who had only fought two matches since he teamed up with Blade in the first round to score a bi, was in excellent shape to take out the first ever ECW invitational tournament. The two men didn't hold back, and the crowd was loving every second of the non stop action! The two ended up outside the ring where they exchanged blows until Storm introduced Jimmy to the ringpost. After setting up a ladder at ringside, Storm whipped Jimmy head first into it with everything he had. Jimmy was then able to get out of the way of a big splash resulting in Storm's face firmly being planted into the ladder. After some more action outside the ring, the two finally made it back inside where they exchanged more blows. The locker room soon emptied and before you knew what was happening every ECW superstar was in the ring in an all out brawl which brought the crowd to its feet! After Jimmy disposed of the last wrestler, he turned around only to taste "The chairshot from hell" as Storm crushed Jimmy's skull with enough velocity to put ANY normal man straight to sleep. Storm was irate as Jimmy's shoulder came up at the count of two and three quarters! Jimmy fought back with a T-Bone suplex followed up with a spear through a table that Storm had set up earlier in the corner. The fans were not satisfied with only Storm's head breaking off a small portion of the table so Jimmy called for "one more time" and his fans reacted approvingly. Jimmy then picked up Storm for the running Powerbomb through the remains of the table!! Jimmy scored the three count over a fallen Davis Storm, much to the delight of the Perth crowd and his fellow wrestlers who again came from the locker room to congratulate him on his big win. Backstage, a battered Jimmy Payne said that this was the best day of his life ... |
